A Healthy Employee is a Productive Employee

In a world that seems to be driven by business and constant production, there is an incredible benefit to having healthy, happy employees. In the very same world, the number of workplace injuries and illness is on the rise.

In 2010, a report released by Statistics South Africa revealed the 10 leading causes of death in South Africa. In order from highest to lowest, these were:

  1. Tuberculosis
  2. Influenza and pneumonia
  3. Intestinal infectious diseases
  4. Other forms of heart disease
  5. Cerebrovascular diseases
  6. Diabetes
  7. HIV disease
  8. Hypertensive diseases
  9. Chronic respiratory diseases
  10. Other viral diseases

While these diseases are not limited to the workplace, they pose a major threat to the operations of many South African businesses and precautions should be taken to protect employees from contracting them.
