Programmes

At WKI, we understand that maintaining the health of your employees involves much more than just conducting regular medical examinations – health and productivity is better protected through preventative action.

WKI’s educational programmes aim to increase awareness of long-term health issues across the business, thereby promoting positive lifestyles, reducing absenteeism due to illness, and improving overall productivity. When combined with our Occupational Health Medical or Primary Healthcare services, they provide an effective defence against chronic illnesses and transmissible diseases.

With a wide variety of health programmes on offer, WKI can help you and your employees according to your needs – the programmes below are a sample of our broader offering.

Wellness Programmes

WKI’s wellness programmes are tailored to specific client requirements, but typically include both a wellness screening and medical testing. Tests and materials are provided as necessary, according to the budget provided. Education can be provided on-site and on a variety of health issues, including:

Cardiac diseases
Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Cholesterol levels
Glucose (blood sugar) levels
Personal hygiene
Tuberculosis
HIV/AIDS
Obesity
Substance abuse

Why you need a wellness programme

Many employees using our services suffer from undiagnosed chronic illnesses, including hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes, high cholesterol and HIV/AIDS. While we provide some education during our regular occupational medicals, the treatment non-compliance percentage remains exceptionally high, leading to reduced health and productivity levels.

Experience has shown that employees learn more from a dedicated wellness programme. With improved understanding, treatment compliance increases significantly. With our first-hand knowledge and extensive years of experience, we can deliver a wellness programme that improves employees’ health awareness, increasing their effectiveness and reducing long-term health risks.

HIV/AIDS Programmes

Our HIV/AIDS Programme includes training and education to equip employees with the correct information regarding HIV/AIDS, as well as voluntary counselling and testing. We take every effort to offer a compassionate and confidential service to your employees.

Due to the vast number of employees with whom we come into contact while delivering occupational health medicals, we have first-hand knowledge of the effects that HIV and AIDS have on employees, their families, the workplace and the economy as a whole.

Businesses should conduct an HIV and AIDS Programme on an annual or bi-annual basis to build a firm awareness of the disease. We strongly recommend combining it with a WKI Wellness Programme to provide a holistic approach to HIV/AIDS, its long-term impact and how to cope with it in a working environment.

Drugs and Alcohol Programme

Designed to raise awareness for employees, these programmes provide in-depth information about the short-term and long-term effects, statistics and education on common misperceptions about drugs and alcohol.

Millions of rands are spent on lost production, accidents, injuries and damage caused by employees working under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The awareness programme consists of drug education lectures and materials which cover alcohol and the most commonly used drugs.
